The job-shadowing program focused on the inclusion of adult seniors and it was
a way to foster understanding, empathy, and practical skills among
professionals and volunteers working with adult senior. This type of program was
particularly valuable
Objective:
To provide to our participant with firsthand experience and insights into the best practices for including and engaging adult seniors in various aspects of society, from community activities and healthcare services to technology use and lifelong learning opportunities.
Duration:
The program was on a period of 7 days, according to the availability of hosting organization.
Key Components:
1. Preparation Workshop
Objective: To equip participants with basic knowledge about the challenges and opportunities related to senior inclusion.
Content: Aging process understanding, communication skills, overview of common health issues, and introduction to assistive technologies.
2. Shadowing Experience
The participant was matched with host organizations where he can observe and assist in daily activities focused on senior inclusion.
Activities include:
Participating in recreational programs designed for seniors.
Observing healthcare services tailored to the elderly.
Assisting in technology training sessions for seniors.
Observing urban planning meetings where senior mobility and accessibility are discussed.
3. Reflection Sessions
Objective: To allow the participant to share experiences, discuss observations, and reflect on learning.
Method: Group discussions, journaling, or presentations.
4. Skill-building Workshops
Post-shadowing workshops to develop specific skills observed during the shadowing phase.
This include:
Designing inclusive community programs.
Effective communication strategies with seniors.
Introduction to geriatric care basics.
Designing accessible spaces and services for the elderly.
Expected Outcomes:
Enhanced understanding of the needs and potentials of the senior population.
Practical insights into effective strategies for senior inclusion.
Development of specific skills related to participants' fields of work or study.
Creation of a network of professionals and organizations focused on senior inclusion.
Initial blueprints for projects or initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for seniors.
Evaluation:
Feedback from participant and host organization, along with the assessment of project proposals, will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and guide future iterations.
This job-shadowing program aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, fostering a more inclusive and understanding society for seniors.
